Almost home

Bonjour!

It is 3:12 am and we are on our final leg of our trip home. We arrived in Ft Lauderdale yesterday and immediately ran into our rooms and had a wonderful hot shower with sweet smelling shampoo and soap! Then we went to a diner and had hamburgers and fries and dessert. It was like a feast! We all felt guilty as the food that we consumed could have fed the entire village that we left in Haiti. The Lord blessed us with an incredible hotel that had just opened, which was a beautiful wonderful blessing.

As we all reflected our trip at dinner last night, it was apparent that everyone was touched by Haiti in some way. We will never be the same. All though our bodies are back in the states but our hearts are still with our village of Campion and Pastor Woosevelt. We found out that when we left the village on Friday (after the cookout) that the Pastor of the Village was on the floor wailing and crying because the Lord Jesus Christ had answered his prayers. Tears of complete Joy. Pastor had been working in the village by himself for 6 years by himself.

I do not have enough time to blog all my feelings right now as we are running out the door to the airport. We will be on seperate planes to Atlanta and have many thoughts to work thru as we put our gameplan together for our return trips.

Our Lord is amazing! As I was reading "The Hole in our Gospel" by Richard Stearns last night.....I had the assurance that we were embarking on a journey that the Lord has preplanned and would be glad we had chosen to be obedient in serving his starving children.

All though we are emotionally and physically exhausted, we are energized in his Love and comfort in knowing that we have a mighty God! More than anytime in my life, I now know that he is ever present and his love is endless.

Blessings, I will write more soon,

Thank you for the prayers please continue for our safe return and when we arrive home.

Bon Jour! From Haiti!

We are on our day 6 today with a full work day ahead of us. It has been amazing how the Lord has worked on all of our hearts this week. This morning the Lord has shown every team member new gifts and talents. It is as though each team member just oozing with the holy spirit!
Yesterday, we went to the our newly adopted village (Capion) and they were waiting for us. Peggy has been amazing and teaching the plan of salvation with the soccer balls that GF showed us. They have touched many hearts. We also made more salvation bracelets and taught basic hygiene. We set up sort of a Triage and helped many wounded people. Again, Peggy has impressed us all with her gifts and talents!
Doug (Dooglahs) has of course touched many hearts and is adamant about learning Creole! He sang with many groups of children and today will be ministering and showing the Movie of Salvation at the near by hospital where the earth quake victims are. Yesterday, we visited the hospital which was initially being built as a Pediatric Neonatal hospital - run by the British here- but after the earthquake it became a place with mostly spinal cord injury victims. We walked in and may patients were listening to Christian music and waving their hands int he air praising the Lord as they lay in the bed. There was one man who was in a halo, severly injured, who was laying there singing. What a great spirit these people have.
We also visited a nearby orphanage where we saw many hydro cephalic babies and handicapped children. There was one small boy who had my heart. He was 2 years old and had a twin sister that had palsy. When Madam Debbie played the Proclaimer- a device that speaks the bible in Creole- the baby placed his hand on it and said "Belle" which means beautiful! It was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen!

Today, Mr Jeff will be in his element as he is welding a grill, out of water pump parts, for the village party tomorrow. We will be cooking 1300 hot dogs on sticks for the entire village! Then we will have movie night and show the Salvation Movie to the entire village!

While in the village yesterday we met the mayor and formed a plan for our next trip this fall. While we were there the guys were most amazed to see a cock fight! On the way out we stopped at a small village and listened to school children sing songs on the side of the road. Andy was a hit when he started dancing with them all! Pappie Nevin took out the frisbees and had a ball with the children as well.

Louvinna has been an awesome intercessor in prayer for us all. Blessing every thing we do and all the people. What a great gift she has.
The men are happy as they all have projects to do today. They worked with the national team to finish the well yesterday and it can be used today which is a huge blessing!

There are still so many needs to be met here and at times it is so overwhelming. It is so important to remember why we came and that we cant save the whole city but one village at a time is a good way to start. I have found that there is nothing that is too hard for a Haitian to do! It is amazing what they will do to just get water, food and shelter...walking miles for just simple things. Most Americans would have already given up or said it is too hard....But these gracious people continue to persevere.

Tomorrow we will have the village party and it will break our hearts to leave. These smiling faces as they shout our names when we pull into their village. The hugs and when they touch our faces because we are "blanco". We know that the Lord has sent us here to save this village and how it must sadden him to see his children living this way.

Please continue to pray for us. Our health and safety. Please also continue to pray for Pastor Rick and Debbie. What they endure on a daily basis is amazing. Their ministry is such a blessing to this country. Daily people walk into their compound with needs. It is amazing how they continue to pour their hearts out.

I will blog more as we enter the states and hopefully send a photo for the church to show on Sunday. We will be in the states Saturday night but home on Sunday.

We love our families very much and miss them but when we leave we will all leave behind a piece of our hearts in Haiti.

Blessings!

More….about Capion

Our team decided that on this trip, that we would purchase a motorcycle for the Pastor who lives miles from the village. He was thrilled.  We also purchased two female goats.Later, the team put together small bags of onions, garlic, bullion cubes, sausage and spaghetti. We made 60 bags for the church families that came to church on Sunday. That small amount is enough to feed each family for a few days. The men, along with the national team,  fixed the existing  water well and Praise the Lord it was crystal clear. Today the concrete pad was poured and tomorrow we will set the well head and then the villge will have clean water!  Clean Water is the basis for everything that we will be doing. We saw many babies that are sick, but Praise the Lord the small baby we first saw is much better. We have instructed the mom on how to take care of it giving it formula for the malnutrician and showing her how to take care of the pneumonia.

Today we did a small hygiene class instructing the village how to keep things clean and then made the bracelets of salvation. Black represents Sin, Red represents the Blood of Christ, White represents Salvation and being washed white as snow, Green represents living the christian life and prayer, and Yellow represents heaven and the streets of Gold.  After we made the bracelets, we asked for someone to stand up and tell the entire salvation story and this young man did. It was powerful to see them ministering to one another. Another man stood up and said that because of the bracelet that he now had that he could not have sex anymore! Later Pastor talked about salvation and during the invitation, one woman raised her hand and asked the Lord to come into her heart. It was amazing!

Tomorrow we will go back and finish the well and some more hygiene and basic first aid classes.
It is amazing to be in a place where people have nothing at all. They are a very gracious people who have not asked to be in this situation. The children are taken care of as much as the people can. There is just no industry here for the people to have jobs. There are many moonshine places around which project quite a stench as they boil the sugar cane. This is the only thing that is really produced that we have seen.

We have many plans for this village and it has really touched everyone's heart here. A long term dedication to this village was made by our team and our fearless leader Mr. Nevin (Pappie we have been calling him). We all feel that we have found our Haitian families.

Please continue to pray for us as we are starting to be tired. The road to the village each day is unreal. Potholes as big as a car. We started singing 137 pot holes in the road, 137 pot holes, go down in one, and go around, 136 pot holes in the road......
We feel your prayers here and are very thankful for the letters of support as well. No one has gotten sick and the Lord has given us strength to endure each day.

Blessings! Salute!
Glennis

Day 4 in Haiti

The Lord has shown us some amazing things so far!

Our committment to this village has been an amazing transformation already. Please pardon the typing...i am typing on a broken computer keyboard at the internet cafe. Monday, we met witht the Pastor Woosevelt the Pastor of the church in Campion, and talked about his vision that he has for the village. We also visited another  village that was sponsored by a Church in Texas. It has been 10 months since that church started their village makeover, and the changes are amazing. Gardens have been planted, animals purchased, cooks hired, a school started, professors hired, and the people of that village were learning how to sustain themselves. Amazing how such small sacrifice financialy have changed the lives of so many.

Pastor Rick, Mr Nevin and Pastor Woosevelt sat down and brainstormed what the Village of Campion needed, physically and spiritually. More..see next blog

We are in Haiti

Haiti....WOW what a trip it has been... it was amazing yesterday!!

The Lord was truly amazing as Pastor Rick and Debbie took us to a village called Campion which is about 10 miles outside of Cap-Haitian. We could not make it to the village that we originally thought we would go to. The conditions in Haiti (Cap-Haitian) are so poor with over 40k people moving into this area since the earthquake. There is no rubble or devistation here from the earthquate just refuges, all trying to survive.
The refuges have settled into many of the villages that surround the area. Cap-Haitin the largest city close to where Pastor Rick and Debbie live. It is packed with people so desperate to survive. There is not enough food, and 90% unemployment here due to the fact that there is nothing to export here.

After leaving the village we drove over some of the most treaturous roads that we have ever seen through cane fields at the base of the mountains.
Then Pastor Rick and Debbie toook us to Cap-Haitian for lunch at a very nice hotel. Here  many of the team members experienced eating GOAT! (including my husband!)
Our goal is to help the village sustain themselves, and  to to bring the Love of Christ Jesus to them by using us as his hands and feet.
Love you all my friends, can't post till later in the week no internet or cell coverage. I am blogging at an internet cafe.

"But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria and to the end of the earth" Acts 1:8

Well it is 5am here and we finally made it to Ft Lauderdale Fl. What an interesting evening this has been. Both flights were delayed due to the weather and finally we arrived..intact in Ft Lauderdale airport.
Next we will head to the ends of the earth!

As we were flying in, just above the clouds, it reminded me of the Lords view of us from heaven. The darkness surrounded by the beautiful clouds with twinkling signs of life.

We are proud to be a part of the lords plan to go and serve. We are honored to go to the ends of the earth to serve in his glorious name. I was sure today when I was landing this morning I heard him say...good job...my friend...good job!

Off to the ends of the earth! Will blog as soon as I am able.
Blessings,

Trip to Haiti

Beautiful Little Haitian Girl

Beautiful Little Haitian Girl

Well we are off!...Sort of...
The Haiti 2010 Crosspointe team left Madison Al today headed to Cap Haitian via Atlanta and Ft. Lauderdale. The trip started off great with a send off prayer at CrossPointe and some great fellowship on the road trip to Atlanta. Once we arrived in Atlanta the weather turned bad and the flight delays started happening. Currently we are spending the nigh in the Atlanta airport waiting for our 12:30am and 1:00am flights off to Ft Lauderdale with a 6:06am to Haiti.
Blessings to all our family members.

Ps....while sitting in the airport I started reading "The hole in our Gospel" by Richard Stearns the President of World Vision.

Here is a great paragraph I thought I would share....
"Anyone who has tried to follow Jesus knows that the journey is fraught with setbacks, challenges, and failures-two steps forward and one step back. Those who choose to follow Christ have struggled since the very beginning to live differently in a world that often rejcts their values and mocks their beliefs. The temptation to retreat from it and to keep our faith private has befallen every generation of Christians. Yet we are the carriers of the gospel-the good news that was meant to change the world. Belief is not enough. And Christian community is not enough. God has always demanded more. When we committed ourselves to following Christ we also committed to living our lives in such a way that a watching world would catch a glimpse of God's character-His love, justice, and mercy--through our words, actions, and behavior. "We are ...Christ's ambassadors," wrote the apostle Paul, as though God were making his appeal through us" (2 Cor 5;20) God chose us to be His representatives. He called us to go out, to proclaim the "good news" to be the "good news" and to change the world. Living out our faith privately was never meant to be an option.

Haiti Village Makeover Trip

haiti-flag

It is almost time to leave, almost time to make our trek to Cap Haitian and Port au Ciel, Haiti. Our team of 9 team members, will leave from CrossPointe church in Madison, AL this Friday at 1pm. We are most anxious to get on our way!  Our trip will begin a series of trips to Port au Ciel, which is about 120 miles South of Cap Haitian, just south of Pignon.

The Village of Port  au Ciel was carefully selected by missionaries Pastor Rick and Debbie Hutchinson for the Village Makeover Project. The Hutchinsons been living in Haiti for over 8 years. On a recent visit in the states,  they saw the TV show " Extreme Makeover" and thought it was such a great idea, they wanted to impliment a "Village Makeover"  in Haiti.

CrossPointe church, in Madison, AL,  decided to partner with the Hutchinsons and set up a 3 year plan to work at Port au Ciel. The forcasted plan is to send teams, once and maybe twice a year for the next 3 years. The first "Village Makeover" team, which will be leaving CrossPointe this friday, will be the first team to start the makeover. Of course, the "Village Makeover" project,  was set to begin before the earthquake, and may have alittle different focus this time.  The team is prepared to do water repairs, scouting of the village, and some relief work as well. The Hutchinsons have also asked if the team can help  impliment a "Missing Persons database". This information of displaced persons will  be broadcasted over the entire island, helping to bring families together.

To find out more about Pastor Rick and Debbie and their ministry, visit their website at www.newlifehaiti.com

Stay tuned for more blogging as the trip begins. I will blog when I have internet access available, and hope to keep everyone up to date as much as possible.
