Thought for today - A Devotional

Thought for today Holy Bible

“In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head, and the LORD will reward you.” (Proverbs 25:22)

These verses from Proverbs tell us the way to overcome evil from an enemy is to reach out and help them and by doing this, the Lord will then pay us back with a reward. One of God's provisions is the kind of love that it takes to reach out and do good to our enemies. We are called to follow in the steps of Jesus and demonstrate the same kind of love to those who persecute us and do all manner of evil against us.

Our Father in heaven will reward us when we are obedient to reach out to our enemies when they are in need of the basics, food, water and heat. When they are thirsty, we are to give them drink.  When they are hungry, we are to give them food, and when they need warmth, we are to meet that need also.

In Bible times, the general populace heated their homes and cooked by burning wood or bits of charcoal in small clay stoves. Most of the stoves were easily portable. Most people would attempt to stoke their stoves at night so that there would be coals left in the morning in order to stir them up and start a fire for breakfast. If the fire had gone out, the practice was to find a neighbor who had some coals and borrow from them to start their own fire.  They would put their small clay stove on their head, and would go looking for some coals.

Therefore, when the reference is made about "heaping coals of fire on their head," this would be a good thing, as giving them live coals to start their fire for the day would be another way to help them. As children of God, we are called to overcome evil with good, go the second mile, and even further if need be, bless those who persecute us and do good to our enemies. By doing these things, we will not only please God, our Father, but our acts of goodness will demonstrate the love of our Father, and evil will be conquered.

Grace, Peace and Blessings

New Life Haiti - Orphanage

New Life Haiti

God has provided 20 acres of land in Haiti for us to start an orphanage.

It is located on the new road that goes to the Dominican Republic and bypasses Trou Du Nord, but is close to Cahesse where we started our ministry in Haiti. After we complete the orphanage we desire to build a nursing home at a later date. The orphanage will be built to hold 100 kids for now. The property has a well but it is not deep enough for our needs so a well will need to be drilled also. Please look at the pictures and pray and see how God would have you help with taking care of orphans in Haiti.

The property is near a new housing development that Food for the Poor recently constructed. We are excited about answering the call from God to take care of the orphans and widows.

Tweeting To God

God always talks to us in so many ways and with so many voices! As I was browsing the internet I came across yet another way for him to communicate with us or I guess you could say another way for us to communicate with him. It is a blog called  TweetYourPrayers. The blog belongs to a young man in Israel named Alon Nir. He is a Tel Aviv University student with a big heart and a very unusual prayer ministry. He has people send him prayers from all over the world. He has received and placed 3,812 prayers, as of October 2009.

The Kotel
These prayers come to him from through Twitter one of the latest networking sites. As he receives these prayers he cuts them and rolls them into small scrolls and fastens with a rubber band. After he prepares the "tweet prayers" he takes them to the Western Wall in Jerusalem also know as "The Kotel" and places them in the cracks of the stones.

Placing prayers in the Western Wall between the stones is a very old tradition. For hundreds of years people of the Jewish faith have been placing prayer requests and notes in the wall. People of other faiths also practice this tradition when they visit the holy city of Jerusalem. It is believed by many that the Wall serves as a direct channel to the Lord.

The blog states that their hopes are that this mission will help people around the world connect with the Western Wall, "The Kotel", God's Wall and make changes in their lives.

I encourage you to visit this site for pictures and several video presentations.

Right now I am heading to Twitter and Facebook to become a follower of Tweet Your Prayers!!

Short Term Missions

So what is really stopping you?
Glennis Wittmuss

Some people think I am crazy when I talk about being packed and ready to go and serve. Well, actually most think I am!

You see, Mission work to me is a privilege. It is a gift from the Lord. Every time I step foot on the mission field, I feel more blessed than words can express. Each time I go and serve, my eyes are opened a little more, and I desire to see more, to serve more. The Lord has amazed me these past 3 years, sending me to 4 different countries. In each country I was privileged to learn more, to have my heart broken more, to reach out more. In each country I wiped tears, prayed with those I had never met before, and came back a little bit different, a little more changed. I left some of my heart in each person that I touched there. In the Bahamas it was a widow who had 5 children to take care of, in Guatemala it was a wonderful teenage boy who told me his heart was broken, in Honduras it was a wonderful little old lady that we prayed for even though she did not understand what we were saying. I have no idea what Haiti will bring, but I am so thankful for the wonder that the Lord gives to me each time my heart is broken.
